Distribution of Musculium lacustre in British Columbia in British Columbia

Introduction


Musculium lacustre is widespread in North America south of the tree line, excepting the southwest US. It is also found in South America, Eurasia, Australia, and Hawaii. It is absent from the northwest of British Columbia (Clarke, 1981).

The largest populations of this species are found in small lakes and ponds, both temporary and permanent, with muddy substrates and luxuriant vegetation. It is also common in ditches, swamps, marshes, large lakes, rivers and creeks (Mackie, 2007).
